Delta wants to be the first carbon neutral airline in the world.
And it’s committing 10 years and $1 billion to the project.
To achieve the goal beginning March 1, Delta will start focusing on carbon reduction, carbon removal and stakeholder engagement.
That includes more fuel-efficient planes, reducing weight on planes and development of new sustainable aviation fuels.
Delta did not say when it hopes to reach the goal of carbon neutrality.
In an interview with CNBC, CEO Ed Bastion said the company will continue to use jet fuel but will also invest in technology to help reduce the impact of jet fuel.
He said “I don’t ever see a future where we eliminate jet fuel from our footprint.”
