Police in New Mexico rescued nearly a dozen children from a compound that’s practically in the middle of nowhere.
It’s a small travel trailer buried in the ground, covered with plastic and stacked tires form the outer walls of the compound.
At the compound, police say they found 11 starving children and three women, believed to be their mothers.
Police called it heartbreaking. They say the children look like refugees.
No food, no freshwater, no shoes or means of personal hygiene and wearing basically dirty rags.
They found plenty of weapons, though: four handguns, a rifle and lots of ammunition.
Deputies arrested Siraj Wahhaj, who had a warrant out of Georgia related to his son, three-year-old Abdul Ghani Wahhaj.
Police did not find the boy when they searched the compound.
