Trump pressed over misinformation, ends briefing
Transcript
During Tuesday’s coronavirus briefing, President Trump cut the meeting short after being pressed by a journalist about spreading misinformation.
CNN journalist Kaitlan Collins pressed Trump about his words of support for a doctor who downplayed masks and suggested alien DNA was used in medical treatments.
The controversial doctor Trump promoted was Dr. Stella Immanuel from Houston.
Trump has retweeted a video of the doctor showing a group in white coats pushing false claims about Covid-19.
In the video Immanuel says people do not need to masks and promoted hydroxychloroquine as a cure for the virus.
Medical experts and the FDA say it is not a cure.
There is also no proof that the drug works and it has potentially harmful side effects.
It has since been deleted by Twitter and other social media platforms.
During Tuesday’s briefing, Trump also again endorsed the use of the controversial drug as a treatment.
As of Tuesday, the US is nearing 150-thousand coronavirus-related deaths and has over 4-million cases.
