Sign1News is partnering with the American Heart Association to offer our Sign1News viewers quick heart healthy tips every week if there is a health topic you’d like more information about just let us know and we’ll see if we can get into the show this week’s heart health tip sleeping great is number eight since 2010 the AHA has used a colorful chart called life’s simple seven to demonstrate the best way to maintain ideal cardiovascular health it shows colored pictures and a circle representing a healthy weight not smoking being physically active eating a healthy diet and controlling blood pressure cholesterol and blood sugar but wait the chart is labeled life’s essential eight not seven that’s because the AHA recently added an eighth drawing of someone sleeping in a bed too much sleep and not enough sleep are connected to poor psychological health which can lead to heart disease so in addition to the other seven health tips add about 7 to 8 hours of sleep a day to maintain ideal heart health and that’s your American Heart Association heart health tip of the week
