And as the country gears up for Memorial Day weekend with coronavirus restrictions, many states used this weekend as a test drive to see how cautious people might be at beaches and parks.
With temperatures in the 80s in Washington, DC this weekend, several people headed out to the National Mall for a stroll.
However DC is still under stay-at-home orders until June 8.
In New Jersey some beaches like Ocean City opened in a dry run for Memorial Day weekend.
Governor Phil Murphy says he wants to assess the impact of reopening public areas and tweak if necessary.
New Jersey boardwalk business owners are watching crowds too since thousands tend to flood the Jersey Shore on Memorial Day weekend.
Texas is on track to reopen exercise facilities and expand capacity at movie theaters and restaurants as soon as Monday.
Los Angeles County, California also opened beaches this weekend but with rules like face coverings.
Meanwhile for the first time in 20 years, AAA did not issue a Memorial Day travel forecast because coronavirus restrictions are expected to push travel volume to a record low.
The director of the CDC said the US could pass the grim milestone of 100,000 Covid-19 cases by June 1.
