Sesame Street is tackling some pretty grown-up issues on one of its latest episodes.
In the clip, the muppet Karli explains to Elmo, Abby Cadabby and other muppet friends that she’s been in foster care because her mom has an addiction.
Karli also explains how her mother is in recovery, attending meetings to work through her problems and stay healthy.
She says: “My mom needs help learning to take better care of herself so she talks to people with the same problem.”
Karli says she goes to a special meeting too for kids where they can share their experiences.
The story is part of the Sesame Street “In Communities” project which helps provide tips for children facing challenges.
This isn’t the first time Sesame Street has addressed tough conversations.
They’ve also talked about homelessness and bullying.
