Authorities have identified the suspect in Tuesday’s Walmart shooting in Southaven, Mississippi as 39-year-old disgruntled employee Martez Tarrell Abram.
Witnesses say Abram came into the store around 6:30 Tuesday morning and opened fire, killing one coworker inside the store and killing another outside as he was fleeing.
Two officers confronted the gunman outside Walmart.
The shooter and one officer were injured in an exchange of gunfire.
A bulletproof vest saved the officer’s life.
Just two weeks ago the Southaven police and fire departments underwent active shooter training which the police chief and mayor believe helped save lives.
Abram does not have a criminal record but authorities say he had been suspended a few days earlier for showing a knife to a coworker.
He now faces two murder charges.
