According to the National Retail Federation, total spending for K-12 and college is expected to reach nearly $83 billion this year, the third highest in the survey’s history.
According to this year’s survey, families can expect to spend around $680 on back to school.
That’s about $236 on clothing, $187 for electronics, $138 on shoes and $122 for supplies like notebooks, pencils and backpacks.
For college students, electronics will be their biggest expense, followed by clothing and furnishings.
And a surprise finding in the survey?
This year, teenagers and preteens are likely to spend some of their own money.
