Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel held a press conference today to address the fact that between Friday and Sunday 66 people were shot and 12 died as a result of gunfire.
Of the 66 people shot, 14 of them were under the age of 18, including an 11 and 13-year-old.
Both children died.
There was a shooting after a funeral and, in one incident, shooters opened fire into a crowded street party.
Mayor Emanuel had a message for the city, saying enough was enough!
Chicago’s police superintendent Eddie Johnson says this is not a widespread issue among citizens in Chicago.
He says the shooters are repeat gun offenders, a small set of individuals who are arrested, get slapped on the wrist and then let go ñ and he’s tired of it!
Johnson also announced that 46 people were arrested this weekend on gun charges.
Police also seized 60 guns as a result of ongoing investigations.
However none of these arrests are connected to this past weekend’s violence.
