The three ex-police officers charged in the death of George Floyd appeared in a Minneapolis courtroom Thursday.
J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao appeared before Judge Paul R. Scoggin wearing orange prison jumpsuits and masks.
Each stood behind a plexiglas window with a hole to speak through.
The three are charged with second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.
Each face bail of $1 million each.
Lawyers for all three argued for a smaller amount.
Last week video emerged that shows Lane and Kueng helped restrain Floyd by kneeling on his back with Thao standing nearby watching.
Kueng’s attorney says his client spoke up about what was happening to Floyd.
And Lane’s attorneys says he’d only been on the police force for four days when the death occurred.
Officers are rarely convicted of of on-duty killings but Minnesota’s Attorney General said he is confident the evidence supports the charges against the officers involved in Floyd’s death.
