FDA approves new saliva-based coronavirus test

If getting a nasal swab to test for Covid makes you cringe here’s some good news.

A new test could use your saliva instead.

The US Food and Drug Administration granted emergency authorization for the “saliva direct” test Saturday.

Researchers from the Yale School of Public Health developed it.

It appears to be fairly accurate, cheap and fast.

And it relies on commonly available reagents.

Oh and professional basketball players use it.

The NBA funded the test’s development and teams give it asymptomatic players.
