The challenges of a presidential election in the midst of a pandemic.
The big question now: How will the post office handle the huge influx of mail-in ballots expected this November?
Democratic representative Gerry Connolly who heads a subcommittee of government operations which oversees the post office is calling for the Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s immediate resignation.
Connolly says DeJoy keeps putting “roadblocks in front of postal workers” like removing some postal collection boxes and limiting overtime.
Protesters showed up at DeJoy’s house Saturday night saying that he needs to step down.
But President Trump is praising DeJoy.
He says DeJoy is trying to streamline the post office and make it great again.
And he says the only way mail-in voting will work is money, which is on hold right now during stimulus negotiations.
But all 50 states have some form of absentee or mail-in voting already in place.
Representative Connolly says the influx of mail the post office will see come November is similar to the holidays.
But Connolly thinks what’s happening is something entirely different.
He thinks it is a deliberate attempt to sabotage the election.
