Nearly 160-thousand Americans have died from the coronavirus.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious disease doctor, says it’s possible the coronavirus never truly goes away saying we may never fully “eradicate” it.
His assessment directly contradicts President Trump who has repeatedly claimed that the virus will “go away.”
But the pandemic is still devastating the country as coronavirus-related deaths are increasing in at least 15 states.
Florida has now surpassed a half-million cases.
In New York City will be setting up checkpoints to identify people traveling from hotspots.
In Los Angeles County, California health officials report adults ages 18-49 make up nearly 60-percent of new coronavirus cases.
Officials say this is the age group that is most likely attending the large parties they keep seeing.
Most gatherings are now banned and Mayor Eric Garcetti says he’s ready to take action against people throwing large parties.
Thursday Fauci said the US has what it takes to get the number of new coronavirus cases down by election day in November.
But it can only be done if the US gets serious now about using masks in public, social distancing and washing hands.
