Several states are reporting alarming new coronavirus numbers this weekend as the US breaks single day record of new cases at least nine times in a month.
According to Johns Hopkins University, as of today (Monday) the US coronavirus death toll is now over 140,000 Americans.
States are doing what they can to curb the spread.
In the heart of Miami’s nightlife district an 8 PM curfew has been established and people will be fined starting at $50 for not wearing masks.
Miami’s hospital system is feeling the strain.
At least 49 facilities across the state have no ICU beds available.
For the fourth time this month Florida reported over 12,000 new cases in one day.
Health experts believe it is because the state lifted restrictions too early and did not require masks.
Meanwhile in Washington, President Trump said it should be up to governors to decide what to do and is pushing back against suggestions to nationally mandate facial coverings.
Despite the fact the CDC and most health experts have made it clear that Americans should wear a mask to prevent the transmission of the virus.
According to Trump the days of the coronavirus will eventually be over.
But there’s no sign of the virus disappearing anytime soon.
In fact the average number of new weekly cases is rising in at least 31 states.
Arizona have the highest number of deaths in a single day since the start of the pandemic.
On Sunday California announced another 9,300 new infections.
Most of the cases were people under the age of 41.
