According to Johns Hopkins University, the number of known Covid-19 cases in the US doubles every month.
Tuesday more than 44-thousand new cases were reported.
The nation’s top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci says he wouldn’t be surprised if it goes up to 100-thousand if the country doesn’t get a handle on the virus.
Medical officials and political leaders, now from both parties, keep stressing the importance of wearing facial coverings in public.
At least 19 states have decided to halt or roll back reopening plans just ahead of Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Four states account for 50-percent of infections.
Two of them are Florida and California, where the governors are taking different approaches on handling the drastic rise in cases of their states.=
Florida Governor Ron Desantis says the state is not bringing back restrictions or closing businesses again, as the state added nearly 6,100 new reported cases Tuesday.
Meantime in California, with nearly 6,400 new infections reported Tuesday, Governor Gavin Newsom says tighter restrictions may be coming soon.
Masks are mandatory in all of California and Newsom says it is up to local leaders to make sure residents are wearing them.
But in Florida facial coverings rules are up to cities and counties.
Meanwhile the CDC is pleading with young people to wear masks.
And despite repeated warnings against large gatherings, Friday President Trump will attend in early Independence Day event in South Dakota.
Masks will not be required.
