Officials are warning that more young people across the South are testing positive for coronavirus.
The increasing number of cases in young people has been seen in parts of Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas and other states.
Many of these states were some of the first to reopen.
While some officials have pointed to more widespread testing being done, others say the new cases stem from Americans failing to social distance.
In Texas the governor said that people under 30 made up a majority of coronavirus case in several counties.
He said the increase could be related to Memorial Day parties and other gatherings.
In Florida, which officials warn is showing signs of possibly becoming the next epicenter, the governor said Saturday that cases are radically shifting towards people in their 20s and 30s.
He said that these groups are mostly asymptomatic and don’t require clinical attention.
But health officials warn that even though these people tend to be less symptomatic and tend to get less ill, they also tend to be spreaders of the virus.
According to the CDC, the coronavirus has more severe outcomes on older people, blacks and Hispanic, and people with underlying health conditions.
