Tuesday several states held primary elections.
In Ferguson, Missouri, a city with a troubled racial history, voters elected the city’s first black and female mayor, Ella Jones.
In 2014 the death of unarmed black teen Michael Brown who was shot by a white police officer sparked outrage and protests.
Jones was elected as Ferguson’s first African American city council member the year after Brown’s death.
Meanwhile in Iowa CNN projects that long time Congressman Steve King will lose in his Republican primary.
King represented Iowa’s fourth congressional district.
He’s gained attention in the past for controversial remarks on race.
But it wasn’t until last year that he was ostracized in Washington and stripped of his committee assignments after questioning how “white nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization” became offensive.
Last June President Trump barred him from Air Force One.
