The governor of New York says the state has reported its lowest daily death toll from Covid-19 since the pandemic began in the US.
Governor Andrew Cuomo told reporters Tuesday that on Monday health officials reported 73 residents died in a single day.
Cuomo said it is still tragic but “in this absurd new reality, that is good news.”
Cuomo also said the number of daily new cases, 200, and new hospitalizations have decreased as well.
This comes as reopening is underway in the state.
New Rochelle, New York, once the coronavirus epicenter in the US, is beginning to reopen.
But the mayor of New Rochelle warns it is still not time for citizens to let their guard down.
Wednesday Long Island is reopening.
The New York Stock Exchange is reopening after being closed for two months.
Traders who are returning are required to wear masks and everyone must sign a waiver stating they know the risks.
