A mother has been charged in the death of her nine-year-old son who disappeared and was later found in Florida.
Miami-Dade police say 47-year-old Patricia Ripley reported her autistic son Alejandro was abducted by two African-American men on Thursday afternoon.
His disappearance prompted a Florida Amber alert and a massive search.
However during questioning, investigators say Ripley’s story eventually began to unravel and she eventually confessed to making up the kidnapping story.
Also witnesses came forward saying Ripley pushed Alejandro into a canal on the day he disappeared but he was rescued by bystanders.
Ripley admitted after the first attempt failed, she drove to another canal and drowned the child an hour later.
She told police Alejandro is “going to be in a better place.”
Police recovered the boy’s body on Friday.
Ripley was arrested Saturday and charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
