Whether the gyms in your area are closed, or you just don’t feel comfortable working out in them yet, you can get a great form of exercise right outside your door.
Here are five tips experts have on how to give your daily walks a boost:
1. Speed intervals
Instead of walking at one pace the whole time, break your walk up into blocks and alternate back and forth between a regular pace and a brisk pace.
This will get your heart rate up.
2. Engage your core
Get those abs burning by squeezing your glutes and pulling your navel towards your spine.
And make sure you’re walking heel-to-toe.
3. Add lower-body strength training
In between intervals change it up by doing a few squats or lunges.
4. Add upper body strength training while walking.
Include moves that focus on toning your back and arms.
5. Meditate as you move by breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth.
This practice can help center your focus and move you through feelings of anxiety and stress.
