On Monday the governors of Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina said they would start reopening some businesses in the coming days.
Georgia and South Carolina are easing restrictions despite neither meeting White House recommendations of a two-week downward trend in cases before lifting measures.
The governor of Georgia will allow places lik gyms and hair-and-nail salons to open this Friday and some restaurants and theaters can open next Monday but with restrictions.
The decision was met with disbelief from some mayors.
According to data from Johns Hopkins University, as of Monday morning, Georgia has over 19-thousand cases and over 700 deaths.
The governor of South Carolina announced the state is allowing its beaches to open if local officials want to.
It is also making plans to allow retail businesses like clothing, furniture and sporting good stores to open if customers are limited to a few at a time.
Meanwhile in Tennessee the governor announced the state’s the vast majority of businesses will be allowed to reopen on May 1, with some businesses opening as soon as Monday.
States including Florida, North Carolina, Texas and Alaska also plan on easing some restrictions.
The country’s top infectious disease doctor warned easing restrictions too soon not only endangers lives but it could seriously increase the demand for medical supplies which are already in short supply.
