According to John Hopkins University, as of Monday night the novel coronavirus has killed nearly 11-thousand people in the US.
And the CDC says the number of COVID-19 deaths in the US may be higher than its count.
The CDC says that’s due to two main reasons: this information usually lags a week or in some cases “may be misclassified as pneumonia deaths in the absence of positive test results.”
Dr. Lorenzo Paladino, an emergency room doctor in New York, says with COVID-19 the pneumonia is “not just in one lung but rather in both lungs, leaving the patient with no good long.”
Some international leaders also believe COVID-19 deaths are underreported because of an overall lack of testing for the virus.
In the meantime health officials say the coronavirus still poses a serious threat.
As the nation’s top infectious disease expert says he feels confident that over a period of time we will get a “good vaccine” and “never have to get back to where we are right now.”
Also yesterday (Monday) President Trump announced a deal with manufacturer 3M that will see the company produce more than 166-million masks for healthcare workers fighting the outbreak.
However there is still a dire need for more personal protective gear (PPE) for medical professionals including gloves, gowns and eye protection.
