Yesterday (Thursday) the World Health Organization declared a global health emergency as cases of the Wuhan coronavirus continue to spread globally.
And there’s growing evidence of person-to-person transmission outside of China.
On Thursday the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that the US reported its first confirmed case of person-to-person spread of the Wuhan coronavirus in Illinois.
Officials say the person is a Chicago resident in his 60s.
His wife was infected with a virus and he contracted it through person-to-person transmission.
This is the second confirmed case of the virus in the state.
Also on Thursday, the State Department announced a high-level warning not to travel to China due to the coronavirus outbreak.
They said “Travelers should be prepared for travel restrictions to be put into effect with little or no advance notice” and that “Commercial carriers have reduced or suspended routes to and from China.”
The State Department also said that those were currently in China should consider departing using commercial means.
As a Friday (Today) morning at least 213 people have died from the virus, and more than 9,709 cases have been confirmed in mainland China.
Outside of mainland China, there are now more than 140 confirmed case of the virus, including six in the US.
