Researchers may have a little extra motivation to keep your New Year’s resolution to exercise more.
A new study finds getting the recommended amount of physical activity is tied to lower risk of certain cancers.
The study analyzed data from more than 750-thousand adults in the U.S., Europe and Australia.
Looking at 15 types of cancer, it found that recommended amount of physical activity correlated with lower risks of seven types of cancer:
They are colon, breast, kidney, myeloma, liver, non-hodgkin lymphoma, and endometrial cancer.
U.S. health officials recommended adults get at least two-and-a-half hours of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise and 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic exercise per week.
The researchers caution the study doesn’t definitively show exercise directly causes cancer risk to drop, and health experts say there may be various other factors at play.
