Several high profile murder and attempted murder cases are making headlines this weekend.
We’ll start in Texas where a grand jury has indicted former Fort Worth police officer Aaron Dean on murder charges in the deadly shooting of Atatiana Jefferson.
If you recall back in October Dean shot and killed Jefferson through the window of her home while she was playing video games with her nephew.
A neighbor called officers to the home after noticing the doors were open.
They walked around the property but failed to identify themselves as police.
Investigators say Jefferson heard the noise in the backyard and pointed a gun at the window.
That’s when Dean shot and killed her.
He later resigned from the force and declined to speak with investigators about the shooting.
Also in Texas the week long search for 33-year-old missing Austin mother Heidi Broussard and her newborn daughter Margot has come to a tragic and.
Broussard’s body was discovered in the trunk of a car at a home in Houston.
She had been strangled.
Police say the only silver lining to this gruesome case is Broussard’s baby was also found at the home, alive and healthy.
Magen Fieramusca has been named the suspect in Broussard’s death.
Authorities arrested her and charged her with two counts of kidnapping and one charge of tampering with a corpse.
She is being held in the Harris County prison on $600,000 bond.
In New York police released photos Friday of an unidentified individual they want to question in the stabbing death of 18-year-old Barnard College student Tessa Majors.
Majors was walking in Manhattan’s Morningside Park last week when she was attacked by one to three assailants.
A 13-year-old was arrested a day after the stabbing and is accused of felony murder and robbery.
Earlier in the day another potential suspect, a 14-year-old boy, fled from a car as he was on his way to speak to investigators.
The teen was riding with an adult when he exited the vehicle according to a source.
Detectives are continuing to search for him.
However police will not say if the individual in this photo is the teen that fled from the car, a witness or another suspect.
And in Iowa 42-year-old Nicole Marie Poole Franklin was arrested and charged with attempted murder after running over a 14-year-old girl.
The girl was walking to school when Franklin’s vehicle jumped the curb, drove down the sidewalk, ran over the girl and left the scene.
The girl survived.
Witnesses helped investigators locate Franklin.
During her interrogation, Franklin admitted she was the driver and intentionally ran over the girl because she was a Mexican.
Franklin has been charged with attempted murder and could also face hate crime charges.
