Police in New York say they have arrested a 13-year-old boy in connection with the death of 18-year-old Barnard College freshmen Tessa Majors.
Majors was found unconscious Wednesday evening near Morningside Park in Manhattan.
She had suffered stab wounds in what police believe was an armed robbery that happened inside the park.
After the attack Majors stumbled up a flight of stairs to street level before collapsing at a security booth near campus.
She died at a hospital soon after.
A witness says say four or five men approached Majors and got into dispute with her.
Police think the crime is part of a robbery pattern in the area.
Police say the 13-year-old boy was found with a knife and admitted being involved in the attempted robbery and stabbing.
The teen also mentioned two other possible suspects and police are investigating that lead.
Police are recommending charges of second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.
Prosecutors will decide the charges and whether the 13-year-old will be prosecuted as an adult.
