Four people are dead including a UPS driver and a bystander after an armed robbery ended in a massive high-speed chase in South Florida.
The incident started with a jewelry store robbery late Thursday afternoon in Coral Gables.
As the two suspects fled the jewelry store, they hijacked a UPS truck and kidnapped the driver, 27-year-old Frank Ordonez.
A multi-county high-speed pursuit ensued.
Law enforcement confronted the suspects nearly 25 miles away as traffic congestion slowed in Miramar, Florida.
Police were able to swarm the truck leading to a shoot out between officers and the suspects.
Police say both suspects were killed in the firefight.
Police say Ordonez and a bystander were shot and killed too.
Investigators are now trying to determine who fired the rounds that struck the suspects, Ordonez and the bystander.
Ordonez’s stepfather says other tactics could have been used to prevent unnecessary deaths.
But a police union official says officers handled the situation well given the circumstances.
