Now that the public impeachment testimonies have wrapped up, President Trump begins his own defense.
In an hour long interview with Fox News, Trump says he welcomes an impeachment trial and attacked career diplomats and members of his own administration.
He also continued to push the conspiracy theory about Ukraine interfering in the 2016 election instead of Russia.
That theory has been debunked by Trump’s own top Russia advisor Fiona Hill and his former Homeland Security advisor Tom Bossert.
Trump also defended his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani’s unusual role in US foreign policy and the Ukraine negotiations.
However Trump ignored how two of Giuliani’s associates were recently indicted on campaign finance charges.
Instead Trump continued his attacks on former ambassador to Ukraine Maria Yovanavitch.
Even though her peers described her as “one of the best,” Trump told Fox News “this was not an angel this woman. They are a lot of things that she did that I didn’t like.”
The President says when he asked why Republicans were being kind to you Yovanavitch during her testimony in front of Congress, he said they told him “she’s a woman. We have to be nice.”
