Red flag warnings are already in place in California but no one expected the Tick fire to explode the way it did last night.
In twenty minutes it quickly grew to 200 acres.
California is now under a state of emergency.
Dry brush, high temperatures and whipping Santa Ana winds gusting at over 50 miles per hour pushed the fire forward and flames jumped a major freeway overnight.
40,000 people are under mandatory evacuation orders and 10,000 structures are in danger of being destroyed.
The Tick fire is just one of nine wildfires right now burning across the Golden State.
Up north in Sonoma County, forty-nine structures have been destroyed by the Kincade fire, nearly 22,000 acres and still burning.
There is still no cause but the local utility company PG&E has now reported an outage on a high-voltage transmission line just seven minutes before this fire broke out and near the point of origin.
Hundreds of thousands of Californians have had their power shut off in high risk areas in hopes of preventing breakouts.
And right now across California, thousands of firefighters are fighting flames, hoping no other fires pop up.
