Lawyers representing convicted murderer and former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger have filed an intent to appeal.
On Tuesday, Guyger’s lead attorney said the intent to appeal does not necessarily indicate an appeal will happen, but is basically a procedural matter.
Last month Guyger was convicted and sentenced to 10 years behind bars for fatally shooting her neighbor Botham Jean in his own home.
Guyger claimed she believed it was her own apartment and thought Jean was a burglar.
The attorney said the filing only protects Guyger’s rights to go ahead with the motion at some point.
It will be months before they know whether they will proceed an appeal.
