Covid crisis triggers emergency actions

Millions of Americans are getting ready to celebrate Independence Day this weekend.

But no one in the country has freedom from the coronavirus pandemic.

The CDC is predicting a grim forecast, now projecting nearly 148,000 coronavirus deaths in the US by July 25.

Across America, states are seeing record-breaking coronavirus cases and that is triggering officials to take extreme measures in an effort to stop the surge.

This is just one of the jarring Covid public service announcements the state of California unveiled.

The ad campaign is aimed to encourage people to wear a mask, keep their distance and stay home.

In Texas, there is a wait list for ventilators in some places.

Now Texas Governor Greg Abbott has issued an executive order making face masks mandatory in counties with 20 or more positive cases.

That executive order impacts more than 60% of Texans.

To the east Arkansas reported nearly 900 new cases in the past last 24 hours.

That is a largest single day increase in the state since the pandemic began.

And there is a new record high in Florida with more than 10,000 new cases reported Thursday.
