There are now questions about how the deadly coronavirus is spread.
Can it be spread by talking or breathing?
A top expert at the National Academy of Sciences has written a letter to the White House warning the virus could be more contagious than previously thought.
The letter warns “the results of available studies are consistent with aerosolization of virus from normal breathing.”
That’s likely to fuel interest in urging Americans to wear masks outside their homes.
But currently there is a critical shortage of masks across the country.
The Trump administration says it will soon release nationwide recommendations on wearing face masks during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Some officials support the idea of people covering up as a way to protect people from infecting others, not as protection from getting infected.
Others like the World Health Organization stress masks should be prioritized for healthcare workers were putting their lives on the line to help care for others.
And as the medical world deals with the constantly increasing number of infected patients, supplies are running low in many states.
Governors across the country are begging for medical equipment and demanding Trump step up and use his power and authority to help.
Trump responded in a tweet by saying, in part, “Massive amounts of medical supplies, even hospitals and medical centers, are being delivered directly to states and hospitals by the federal government. Some have insatiable appetites and are never satisfied. The complainers should have been stocked up and ready long before this crisis hit.”
