Postmaster General Louis DeJoy now holding off on some major changes to the post office that were put into effect just months before the presidential election.
Tuesday DeJoy said he wanted to ensure voters are fully supported by the postal service.
DeJoy now says the retail hours at post offices will not change, mail processing equipment and blue collection boxes will remain where they are and no mail processing facilities will be closed.
However it’s not clear whether the changes can be undone before election time and at least 20 state attorneys have filed lawsuits against potential mail delays.
Some are already feeling the consequences of the changes like the Department of Veterans Affairs which has been forced to find other ways to ship mail-in order prescriptions because of delays.
The Postmaster General has been under fire for weeks after he approved budget cuts that would cripple the post office.
DeJoy is a Trump supporter and friend of President Trump.
He’s also been accused of making the changes to help Trump’s reelection campaign.
Trump and other Republicans have questioned the integrity of the mail-in voting.
But DeJoy denies he made changes at the request of Trump and says they were made because the Postal Service is not making enough money.
He is set to testify before a Senate committee on Friday and the House Oversight Committee next week.
