The director of the CDC is warning this fall and winter will be one of the most difficult times we’ve ever experienced in American public health.
With at least 38 states experiencing a rise in new cases over the past week many hospitals are already over-stretched.
Florida added 9,200 infections over the past day.
Nearly a quarter of the sunshine states cases are in Miami-Dade County which is now considered by experts to be the epicenter of the pandemic.
As a result of rising cases the borders between the US and its two closest neighbors, Mexico and Canada, will now remain closed to nonessential travel through at least late August.
There is some helpful news though.
The Covid-19 drug being developed by drug company Moderna has been found to produce some immune response in all the volunteers who got it in a phase 1 study.
That drug will now advance to the next crucial stage.
