The debate over reopening schools in the fall is intensifying.
In California the governor is ordering a sweeping rollback of reopenings and praising Los Angeles and San Diego for their decision not to hold in-person classes this August.
According to Johns Hopkins University, at least 35 states are seeing higher average daily case counts.
Despite the increase many areas are moving forward with plans to get kids back in school.
In South Florida teachers like Sara Ross are uniting to fight a state order to reopen all schools in the fall.
Monday the sunshine state added 12-thousand new coronavirus cases, bringing its total to over 280-thousand.
President Trump’s administration says the decision to reopen schools should be done on the local level.
Trump calls the CDC guidelines too tough and too expensive.
Former actor director for the CDC Dr. Richard Besser says because schools are funded by property taxes, reopening now could put poorer communities at risk.
Besser says wealthy communities may be able to make changes so that schools are safer for their kids.
But lower income communities are not going to be able to do so.
The World Health Organization said the decision to reopen schools should be made outside of politics.
