Officials say President Trump plans to get back on the campaign trail in the next two weeks.
He is also facing pressure to address the nation as nationwide protests against racism and police brutality continue to grow.
The announcement to get back on the campaign trail and possibly address the nation came right after it was revealed Trump is sliding in the polls.
A new survey finds his silence may be hurting his standing with voters.
According to a new CNN poll the President’s approval rating slipped seven points in the last month and 63% of adults disapprove of his handling of race relations in the country.
65% say his response to the protest have done more harm than good.
Trump once said all negative polls are “fake news” and dismissed the poll numbers by claiming “CNN polls are as fake as their reporting.”
But the poll showed that Americans now believe race relations is as big of a campaign issue as healthcare and the economy.
In turn Trump’s campaign is focusing on Democrats who have advocated for defunding police departments, while Trump portrays himself as the law and order candidate.
Moments after the Trump campaign said Biden was endorsing defunding the police by staying silent, Biden’s campaign said he “does not believe the police should be defunded.”
Besides his tweets, Trump has kept a low profile in recent days.
He has declined to engage with the press and has resorted to ignoring reporters’ questions during recent White House events.
