According to data from Johns Hopkins University, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the US has surpassed 1.7 million.
And the nationwide death toll is approaching 100,000.
This Memorial Day weekend many people continued to follow coronavirus safety precautions.
But in some parts of the country, thousands disregarded safety precautions such as wearing masks, staying in small groups and practicing social distancing.
In Alabama some crowds celebrated closely at beaches.
In Missouri a packed pool party has officials now urging self-quarantine for 14 days.
In Illinois hundreds defied stay-at-home orders at a biker bar.
This comes as officials continue to highlight the importance of practicing coronavirus safety precautions to prevent another surge of infections.
That surge is already happening in some places.
In 18 states including Georgia, Arkansas, California and Alabama the number of new cases are rising.
In 10 states the number of new cases is on the decline, while in 22 states it seems to be steady.
