A key coronavirus model often cited by the White House now projects a slight drop in US deaths.
Researchers from the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington now predict that by August 143,360 people will die.
That’s about 37-hundred fewer deaths from the projections last week.
Officials say a possible factor in the lowered death projection is face coverings.
According to the director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, forty percent of the US wears a mask all the time and about 80 percent wears a mask sometimes.
But doctors are still warning the public to remain vigilant.
Health experts say this doesn’t necessarily mean that we are heading in the right direction and that the virus is still out there.
According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 90-thousand people in the US are confirmed to have died from the coronavirus.
