When Congress passed the CARES Act coronavirus aid package, it included the creation of a pandemic response accountability committee to help coordinate investigations into various elements of the outbreak response.
Some of the investigations are already underway.
A House Appropriations Committee has scheduled a hearing next week and wanted the nation’s top infectious disease expert Doctor Anthony Fauci to appear as a witness regarding the Covid 19 response.
But the White House blocked it saying it is counterproductive for coronavirus task force members to appear before Congress right now.
The decision to keep Fauci from appearing before the House committee comes as House Democrats are preparing for a multi-front investigation into the federal coronavirus response.
However it appears Fauci is expected to testify in front of a Republican-led Senate committee in two weeks.
Fauci is scheduled to testify before the Senate health, education, labor and pensions committee on May 12.
