According to Johns Hopkins University, the US has more than one-million cases of COVID-19.
On April 10 there were 500-thousand cases.
As of Tuesday evening, 58,356 people have died from the virus in the US.
That is more than the total number of people who died in the Vietnam War which was 58,220 people.
On Wednesday President Trump tweeted that the only reason the US has one million cases is because other countries are behind the US in testing.
However according to a new report by the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development, the US continues to lag behind in testing.
The US has performed 16.4 tests per 1,000 people.
Spain and Italy, with the second and third highest number of cases after the US, have conducted 22.3 and 29.7 tests per 1,000 people respectively.
The nation’s top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci says a second wave of the virus is “inevitable” but how bad it will be depends on the progress the US makes in the coming months.
Fauci says the US “could be in for a bad fall and a bad winter” if countermeasures like testing and social distancing aren’t implemented in time.
Fauci added that if states began lifting restrictions too early, the country could see many more deaths than predicted.
A leading model predicts more than 72-thousand people will die in the US by early August.
