Experts say easing restrictions too early may increase the US coronavirus death toll.
A scientific model by the University of Washington’s Institute for Help Metrics and Evaluation predicted that by August over 60-thousand Americans would lose their lives.
Now the model projects that 74-thousand Americans will lose their lives by August.
The director of the institute says the projection was adjusted due to longer peaks in some states and signs that people are becoming active again.
This week at least 13 states will reopen some of their major businesses.
States including Georgia, Texas, Michigan, Hawaii and Alaska have begun reopening.
Monday the governor of Texas announced the state’s stay-at-home order will end Thursday.
The governor’s orders, which supersedes local orders, will allow businesses like retail stores, malls, restaurants and theaters to reopen Friday but limits occupancy by 25-percent.
This comes as the US is preparing to hit another milestone in the pandemic as it approaches 1 million cases.
As of Tuesday morning, over 56-thousand Americans have died so far.
