A Georgia coastal bar has upended a 15 year tradition so it can pay its employees.
Tybee Island’s “The Sand Bar” customers have been stapling dollar bills to the wall for years.
But like many other restaurants, the Sand Bar had to close its doors after officials put stay-at-home orders in place and mandated restaurants switch to take-out or delivery only.
As business dried up, owner Jennifer Knox was sitting in her empty bar and looked around.
That’s when she realized the opportunity to help her unemployed staff was literally written (or stapled) on the wall and ceiling.
It took Knox and five volunteers nearly 2 weeks to take down and clean the bills one by one.
In total they collected $4,104, enough money to pay bar employees about $600 each.
