The CDC has updated its website to remove dosage guidance on hydroxychloroquine.
It’s currently used to treat malaria, rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases.
But it’s been promoted by President Trump and other state officials as a possible treatment for COVID-19.
Medical experts, including the nation’s top infectious disease expert, have warned that the drug is unproven.
And that there are dangers in promoting it before data backs up its efficacy.
One of these consequences are now lupus and arthritis patients are facing a shortage of the drug and another anti-malaria drug promoted by the president.
This is because people are now hoarding the drugs.
The updated CDC guidance for hydroxychloroquine is shorter and no longer gives dosage information, details or studies about the drug.
The FDA also hasn’t approved the drug to treat coronavirus.
