With 10 million people filing jobless claims in the last two weeks, the number of families relying on food banks is surging.
When the coronavirus switched off the economy like a light switch, any money people had saved up was depleted quickly.
And until unemployment benefits kick in, many people are now forced to stand in line for assistance.
Massive lines for food are popping up all over the country, from Central Ohio to Louisiana to Pittsburgh to Los Angeles to Broward County Florida.
Many people in line are recently unemployed and scrambling to stock up.
Food banks nationwide are overwhelmed and running short.
Feeding America food bank network, the nation’s largest food bank, says it will fall short of what’s needed this year by $1.4 billion.
