More than 900 new deaths from the coronavirus have been reported Wednesday, the most reported deaths for a single day in the US.
To limit the spread, more than 30 states now have stay-at-home or shelter-in-place orders.
The governor of Florida is issuing state-wide stay-at-home orders that goes into effect Friday and expires April 30 unless extended.
Part of the order says the health and safety of Floridians was jeopardized after thousands of people fled the New York City region to Florida following New York state’s shelter-in-place order.
The governor of Georgia also announced that a statewide shelter-in-place will go into effect Friday.
The 11 states that have not issued statewide stay-at-home orders include: Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah and Wyoming.
This did not evoke a positive response from California’s governor asking the states “What are you waiting for?”
Also on Wednesday President Trump said a national stay-at-home order isn’t likely right now.
The administration is optimistic the nation could be back to business by early June.
But Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, warns the social distancing guidelines can’t be relaxed until the virus is more contained.
Even with the orders, the White House coronavirus task force still projects up to 240-thousand deaths from COVID-19.
