States from Texas to the Carolinas have been experiencing flash flooding and river flooding and are expected to experience more this week.
Meteorologists say along with heavy rain, there will be several rounds of severe weather this week, with large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes.
According to the Weather Prediction Center, parts of northern Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia are under a high risk (level 4 of 4) for flash flooding.
Atlanta and Birmingham, Alabama are particularly high risk areas.
On Monday (Yesterday) in Birmingham firefighters were out for at least five water rescues.
In Jackson, Mississippi yesterday night the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning after a twister was spotted on the ground close to nearby Phoenix.
Tuesday (Today) the Southeast will see a few isolated storms.
On Wednesday (Tomorrow) the threat for severe storms will increase as another system moves through.
