President Trump fired Gordon Sondland on Friday.
Sondland had been serving as a US ambassador to the European Union.
The diplomat was once on close terms with Trump but the two have not spoken since Sondland testified against Trump to the House in its impeachment probe last year.
A Trump advisor admits the firing was retribution for siding against Trump.
The Trump advisor called it “flushing out the pipes.”
Sondland was not the only person to be fired.
Trump also fire Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman who was the top Ukraine expert at the National Security Council (NSC) and also testified against Trump.
His twin brother Yevgeny, who never spoke publicly about the impeachment investigation, was also fired from his job as attorney at the NSC.
