While there is no cure for the deadly Wuhan coronavirus, scientists are trying to develop ways to treat the symptoms with existing antiviral medications.
One of these drugs is used to treat Ebola, another global health threat.
On Friday Gilead Sciences said it is working with Chinese health authorities to see if the drug can combat symptoms of coronavirus.
As of Tuesday (Today) morning, the coronavirus has killed at least 427 people and infected more than 20,000 globally as it continues to spread beyond China.
The virus has been confirmed in more than 25 countries since it was first detected in Wuhan, China in December.
