Last night and today (Thursday) the House Judiciary Committee debated articles of impeachment against President Trump.
Trump is accused of abusing his power by pressuring Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden.
And also obstructing Congress by refusing to cooperate with the impeachment inquiry.
During the hearing Republican representative Jim Jordan introduced an amendment to strike the article accusing Trump of abuse of power from the impeachment articles.
The amendment was rejected by the committee.
During the hearing House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler addressed the pressures faced by Ukraine.
Ukraine’s president Volodyrmyr Zelensky denied Trump pressured him to investigate the Bidens.
Nadler said Zelensky had a “gun to his head” and that, of course, he denied being pressured because if he didn’t there would be “heavy consequences” including withholding military aid.
Republican Doug Collins said Democrats do not have the facts to impeach the president.
The committee is expected to approve the articles later today.
If the committee approves the articles, they’ll send them to the White House floor for a vote next week before it would move over to the Senate for a trial.
