Authorities in Florida say 54-year-old Tina Scee is in trouble with the law for an alleged adoption scheme involving her own disabled adopted son.
Investigators say Scee posed as a worker for the Department of children and families (DCF).
She convinced an Ohio couple she was trying to find adoptive homes for children.
Authorities say Scee was actually a foster parent for a disabled two-year-old boy and claimed he was available for adoption.
The Ohio couple wanted to adopt him.
Scee allegedly let the child go to Ohio with the couple but made them come back to Florida numerous times to deceive DCF during home visits.
Scee wanted it to appear as if she was taking care of the boy full-time.
But while the child was in Ohio, investigators say Scee filed paperwork to adopt the child as her own so she would receive federal benefits of nearly $4,000.
She was granted the adoption.
However the Ohio couple became suspicious when they could not obtain the legal documents to complete their adoption of the boy.
They contacted authorities in Florida.
Scee then turned herself into police and was placed in jail on a $20,000 bond.
She is charged with scheme to defraud, grand theft, illegally placing a child for adoption and perjury.
Her rights to the boy have been stripped.
The Ohio couple has now legally adopted the child.
